One Crisis at a Time: National Campaign

Following the success of Devizes for EU’s ‘One Crisis at a Time‘ initiative over recent weeks, other grassroots groups across the country have begun to adopt the idea.  An informal nationwide ‘One Crisis as a Time’ (OCAT) campaign is rapidly taking shape.

Our country simply cannot afford a ‘no deal’ exit at any stage let alone at a time when our economy is already being severely damaged by the pandemic.

This month, Parliament should reflect, protect and extend.

BUT

We only have a few weeks to persuade Government to change course.

The OCAT campaign is seeking to persuade as many politicians and civil society organisations and leaders to do whatever they can to encourage Government to opt for an extension to the current post-Brexit transition period.

We are facing a completely new reality

Brexit itself has of course already happened. The big question now is:

How do we minimise the damage to jobs and living standards in the UK (and indeed in the rest of our continent) and focus all efforts on beating Covid-19?

To do that we need to avoid an exit from  UK-EU trading arrangements. at the end of 2020 becoming a ‘no-deal’ (or rushed ‘skinny’ deal).

The problem

Because coronavirus has slowed down UK-EU negotiations, a mutually beneficial deal between ourselves and the European Union can only be achieved by extending the negotiation period – and that would require Government to extend the transition period by the end of June.

We want the Government to concentrate on beating coronavirus.  Only after it has done that, should Government carry out proper constructive negotiations with the EU.

Our message to the Prime Minister is

Please please please concentrate on handling one crisis at a time.

How are we campaigning?

The OCAT volunteers are trying to persuade businesses, trades unions, religious leaders, political figures, and sports and music industry personalities to advocate an extension and speak out.

Can you help?

Volunteers in several local groups across the country have stepped forward to help.  But we need more volunteers to urgently push forward the campaign.

What’s more, we need help in contacting key celebrities (politicians, sports, music and TV personalities, etc). If you can assist in any way, please contact us  urgently.

Let’s do everything we can to make this campaign work!
